VM Frens. Yes, you read that right and maybe you’ve noticed our new logo. I’ll be tagging everything with #VM moving forward and as one of the first things to include in this weekly update - I’m encouraging everyone in the Vagobond Community to replace GM with VM.
….and yes. That’s our new logo. I hope you like it. I know I do.
Now - I know I’ve been driving some of you crazy with all the notifications for the past month or two - but let’s face it - I’ve been busy AF building my ass off and trying to make things happen for us and our community - so I hope you’ve been okay with it. That being said, moving forward, I would like to ping you in the Discord a lot less and also to let those who have decided to take a break from Discord have a way to keep up on what is happening in our amazing community. So - moving forward - every weekend I’ll put together an email like this and publish it to our community substack.
So - here we go!!!!
Vagobond Magazine Volume 2 Issue 1 was released early in 2023. I feel like we raised the bar in terms of art, design, and layout for this issue as well as making it available as an NFT (Readme or Readl), on Kindle, on Vagobond.com as an ungated flip-book, and on IPFS. https://vagobond.com/vagobond-magazine-volume-2-issue-1-january-2023-happy-a-i-year/
We’ve updated the website at https://www.vagobond.com as well as here. The Vagobond Magazine Discord server has been refreshed and is new and shiny. We launched a Medium channel and are publishing to a variety of social media.
The original Vagobond twitter is now the official Vagobond Magazine twitter @vagobond_mag. I will keep @vagobond as my personal since I’ve been using it that way for so long. I don’t want Vagobond Mag to be saddled with my personal tweets.
From about 2008-2020 - I used Vagobond as a synonym for myself. I thought I needed a pseudonym as a writer and “Vago the Vagobond” was what I used. In truth, I didn’t need it and probably never should have used it. I’m really happy using my initials CD (Yes, those are my first and middle names) along with my last name Damitio. I won’t argue with those who say my legal name is Compact Disk or Creative Director - but it’s pretty easy to find my name. Call me CD though, I like it and it’s what I tell everyone in real life too. The reason I mention that is because in the past months, I’ve been making a huge effort to differentiate Vagobond and Vagobond Magazine and Vagobond Community from me. There are far too many amazing people in this community for it to represent me alone. WE are Vagobond. I’m not Vagobond. You, the Vagobond Community of creatives, travelers, writers, weirdos, beardos, bloggers, degens, and freaks - you (and me) are Vagobond - but it isn’t a person and never has been.
In the process of professionalizing Vagobond Magazine, I’ve given us a needed refresh on Linkedin. This is also a great point to introduce two key personnel that joined our editorial staff this week. Rionna Morgan came on as Senior Editor and Cryptoversal joined our team as Books Editor. They are the first of many official positions we plan to fill in 2023. Welcome.
We released our first white paper for Vagobond Magazine this week. If you want to know what lies ahead for Vagobond Magazine and why we are doing all of this - take 15-minutes to read this important document.
We give some important details about the $BALDS token and its importance to our community moving forward in there - I hope you all take the time to read it. Or at least familiarize yourself with our forthcoming $BALDS token airdrop - so you don’t miss out.
A friend asked me this week if it wasn’t odd that we focused on Web3, travel, and literature since they seem like such disparate things - I wrote this essay to clarify a bit of that. I should also point out that my best travel years were when hostels and couchsurfing were golden and Web3 communities have that same vibe - or at least most of them did when I jumped into Web3 with both feet - many communities still have it - but many of them don’t. They’ve become what AirBnB became to Couchsurfing. IYKYK.
I think that’s it for the official updates in the past week ( Do you see why there were so many notifications now?) but in this newsletter - I also want to mention some of the things going on in our community.
Quanta gave us this amazing article about Web3 fashion in 2023. Read it. I promise it will blow your mind!
DJ Kupo’s latest crypto roundup keeps you up to date on everything important that happened in the world of crypto.
I used ChatGPT to write a song that didn’t exist and then Indefatigable.eth performed it on Instagram - all within an hour and a half! Watch this - it’s fucking amazing!
In 2023 - I’m going to continue participating in shows and spaces. This week we had a great Web3 Writers Hour with myself, Edward H. Carpenter, and Cryptoversal on Twitter Spaces (Now on Tuesday) and the PageDao Show was a really good one on the PageDao Discord. Next week we’ll start the Peaceful Groupies back up on Twitter. I’m sad we won’t be doing Twitch moving forward, but it makes sense.
In the Discord we have a lot going on - alpha calls have been shared, there are secret projects being built, and of course, the Baldists are doing like the Baldists do because Bald Jesus is Your Bro and they share the server with us (btw, I’m a proud Baldist but I don’t want that to be the focus of our server, but a focus is fine) . Everyone should check out the new site https://www.baldism.org - I feel like it is next level.
That’s not even close to all of it - but at least it brings you up to speed on the important stuff. I’m going to try really hard not to ping anyone this week - except for now - when I post this. ;)
Have a great week frens!
~CD
